What is the difference in a Miniature/Toy
Australian Shepherd and a standard Australian Shepherd?
The only difference is size. If they are quality Toy’s/mini's, they should look identical to a standard aussie only smaller of course! They have the same wonderful attributes as their larger predecessors, but have less drive and tend to be more laid back and quite. The toys are equivalent in intelligence as well. :)
What are the coat color variations of the Toy/Mini aussie ?
At what age can you tell a puppies final eye color?
Typically puppies begin to open their eyes at 10-14 days. Some may have blue eyes initially and gradually change to brown or amber. Usually one can confirm final eye color at about 4 weeks.
Do they all have blue eyes?
Aussies can have shades of blue, green, brown or even a mixture of 2 and can be marbled or split. Example 1 eye might be blue and the other is 1/2 blue and 1/2 green. You can see more info on the page listed.
Whats the size of a Toy and Teacup Aussie in comparison with a Miniature?
Teacup sized aussies range from 2-8lbs and under 10" tall. Toys are considered 14 inches and under and typically range from 8-20lbs. Mini aussies are 14-17 inches and typically 15-35lbs. Some registries will accept minis up to 18 inches tall.
Do toy/mini aussies shed a lot?
Some have more of a coat than others. Typically aussies are minimal shedders in comparison with other breeds. With the changing of the seasons particular times of the year the aussies DO shed their undercoat (Fall to Winter and Winter into Spring). At this time we suggest brushing at least 2 times per week to minimize the shedding. we recommend using a tool/brush called the FURminator. It works by removing the dogs loose undercoat which in turn reduces shedding.
What kind of coats do toy/mini aussies have?
We know some people live by their beliefs that males are better or vice versa. After raising toys/minis and spending alot of time with both sexes, We have NOT noticed any significant behavior differences between them. Both make wonderful family companions and have the same desirable attributes.
What gender makes a better pet, Males or females?
If you're just looking for a pet and plan to spay/neuter it doesn't make any difference. We have 3 unaltered males who live together cohesively along with the girls and they get along wonderfully! Its just a matter of preference for some individuals.
Toys/Minis are great with children and are wonderful family pets. They are also accepting of other pets and Livestock. Remember, they are herding dogs and can sometimes herd the cats, dogs or other family members!
If I currently have a male or female pet dog, should I get the same or opposite gender aussie?
Yes! All puppies need to be trained with consistency and loved. Aussies love to be involved in family activities and do best with families that provide obedience training, socialization and exercise. Some aussies are naturally reserved around strangers and need to be properly socialized early in their lives. They are also extremely loyal dogs; wanting to be by their masters side more than anything else on the planet! Aussies are extremley smart and want nothing more than to please their owner. They can very easily be trained to do anything!
How do toy/mini aussies get along with children and other pets?
Do toy/mini aussies need training?
Coats can range from long silky hair to fluffy and thick. Some have working coats and are a little bit shorter.
Do you ship internationally?
In May 2011 AKC began to recognize and register toy and mini aussies under the name miniature american shepherd. As of late, AKC is not the desired registry for the breed however any ASDR or NSDR registered dog can be dual registered with AKC if desired at the present time. Our dogs are registered with ASDR and or NSDR. All dogs can be hardship registered with NSDR, just incase NSDR registration is preferred. They will not have papers with pedigree from NSDR, but they will from ASDR.
Puppies are sold with limited (pet only) registration papers unless otherwised discussed prior to purchase.
We are experienced shippers in the US and Canada. Although we enjoy meeting our new families in person, more often than not our families ask that we ship our babies directly to them. We ship from Tampa International Airport and use Continental or Delta Airlines exclusively. Both airlines has a climate controlled cargo area making the flight safer for the baby especially in temperatures when “certificates of acclimation” are needed to ship with other airlines. The temperature in the climate controlled cargo area is the same as riding in cabin. Other airlines are available, but prices will vary. For families who prefer their puppy a “hand carried”; We offer a service which allow the puppy to be chaperoned to his final destination. The chaperone will not only carry the puppy abord the flight and be present, but will meet you in the arriving airport for about $200 more than our regular shipping fees. ~please inquire for availability
Shipping Cost is an all inclusive $300. Price includes airline charges, crate, vet check, health certificate and any other aquired expenses. We do not charge for commuting to the airport and back.

What if I have questions or concerns after I have my puppy?
We suggest purchasing the typical puppy necessities before your puppy comes home. We recommend purchasing a bag of puppy training potty pads, small plush puppy toys, and a Nylabone for your puppy to chew on, as well as your puppies Nu-Vet Plus vitamins to fulfill warranty conditions (cost is about 17$ per month). We recommend a small wire crate with a expandable divider, which can be purchased at any local pet stores (even super Wal-mart). We also suggest " Plush Puppy stuffed heart beat animals" with battery operated beating heart specifically for newly weaned puppies CLICK HERE for a brand We recommend. These products can be purchased at PetsMart. PetsMart also has the petstages" hearbeat pillow " too! All of my puppies eat Eukanuba "small breed puppy chow" and have been started on NuVet Plus Vitamins.
~ Each Blue Horizon Tiny Aussie puppy will be accompanied with a "New Puppy Necessities package" which includes all of the most needed essentials to get you started.
All of our puppies are started on paper training, starting at 4 weeks once they start to venture from their whelping box. We've found that Paper training is a wonderful medium to house breaking puppies. Please CLICK HERE for more information regarding crate and house training.
Be prepared, it was a long day and airplane ride. It is possible he/she may have messed their crate. A towel might be a handy thing to have just in case. There will be food on the crate, but a drink of water would be greatly appreciated by your new arrival! Lots of hugs and kisses are a great welcome too!
Yes! Do not put your puppy on the ground at the airport to go potty! Hundreds of people a week pick up their new puppies at the airport where you do. A huge percent of them let their puppies run around where you would and your new puppy could get sick by walking around where other possibly sick puppies have been. You can not be too careful. Wait until you get somewhere your puppy can safely potty where there have not been a bunch of other puppies. Gas stations and other parking lots are not the best choice either.
Oh, this is scary. As explained above, this can be dangerous. Parvo, among other things, is very easily transferred and is very contagious. This kills a huge percent of puppies who get it. If you have to take your puppy to petsmart, don't put him down and don't let strangers handle your puppy. Puppies are susceptible to parvo until they've had several sets of shots.
Your puppy will have the proper shots for his/her age. All of my puppies are fecal tested for Internal and external parasites and have been started on Revolution at 6 weeks, and have been on a bi monthly deworming schedule since 2 weeks of age. Parvo, for example, is very dangerous and unfortunately can still be contracted after several sets of shots. You can keep your puppy healthy by making sure its had its full set of shots before you take it to public places!
I suggest waiting until 16 wks before taking them for outdoor adventures where they may come in contact with these pathogens. 16 weeks is typically the time it takes for puppy to have had all 3 puppy boosters and time for the formation of antibodies.

Sending us a deposit will assure your reservation for that particular puppy and we will hold her/him for you until 8 wks of age. We allow one week including weekends for your deposit to arrive. If it does not arrive, We can not keep holding the puppy. A $300.00 deposit can be placed on a puppy for the upcoming litters as well; this deposit is refundable anytime prior to the puppies being born. Once the litter is born, the deposits are non-refundable and will be deducted from the purchase price of the puppy. If you give a deposit to hold a puppy of your desired gender/color and one is not born the deposit will either be returned or put towards the next available litter that fits your criteria, which ever you prefer.
For deposits We accept checks, money orders or paypal (please add 3% fee for paypal fees) . For the final payment I accept money orders, cashiers checks or paypal. Or of course cash works as well if puppy is picked up!
Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable for any reason after puppies are born. The only time will refund a deposit is if a deposit is placed on a puppy in advance before the litter is actually born. The reason for a deposit is for me to hold the puppy for you. If we are holding a specific puppy for you, he can not be sold to anyone else. If we were to transfer the deposit to another puppy, we would be loosing several potential new families for the that little one, while the puppy was marked sold.

WARNING! Toy Aussies are truly the most wonderful breed of dog, and are highly contagious! Although they are small, the toy Aussie have a "big dog" type personality, from of their standard predecessors. Toy Aussie are easy going, loyal, outgoing, laid back, quiet, intuitive and are great with other animals and children. Honestly There's NOT one attribute to change, they truly are priceless and are the most loyal companion one could own as long as they are raised right from puppyhood! Aussie's don't shed much and are a very "clean" breed of dog as they dont have that "odor" most other breeds attain. They are hearty little dogs, (depending on their genetics). Our oldest Toy Aussie is 12 and we have never taken him to our vet for anything besides a routine exam. All we can say is that "once you're introduced to the breed, you cant own just one!" :)
